Alison Smith is the acclaimed author of Can’t See the Wood for the Trees, an inspired book which draws on metaphors inspired by nature to help people and organisations become unstuck and free from limiting beliefs.
She is the founder of Landscaping Your Life and also works with businesses to help them overcome problems and improve communications between departments, while enhancing procurement and purchasing processes.
Because of Alison’s holistic approach to personal and business development, we wanted to know more about what makes her tick and, of course, glean some of her health and wellbeing tips…
Q: Alison, what does health and wellness mean to you?
A: A mind, body and soul that gives me the freedom to choose what I do.
Q: What makes you happy?
A: Open water swimming here in Scotland and people having ‘a-ha’ moments in training and coaching sessions.
Q: Any health niggles?
A: I’m just emerging from the menopause, which impacted my confidence and thinking. But, it’s my osteo-arthritic knees that resrict what I do – even if eating gluten and nightshade helps keep the pain at bay.
Q: What are your top 3 wellbeing tips?
A: Get into nature; drink more water (which my personal trainer is constantly having to remind me to do), and go to bed before 10.30pm.
Q: Apart from friends and family, what 3 things could you not live without?
A: My cat (who is 21); my wetsuit, and my library of books.
Q: What’s next for Landscaping Your Life?
A: A workshops for coaches who would like to learn how to use the LANDSCAPE coaching toolkit with their clients – and I can feel the whispers of another book!
