With more than 33,000 views on social media, a video of a doctor treating a young patient at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness has created quite a stir.
Dr Ryan Coetzee, who is based in the Paediatrics Department, was videoed by the parent of a young patient, to whom he sang while taking their blood.
Ryan, who is a trained classical singer, said: “Singing to the patients has always been something I have done. It’s a natural thing for me to sing and when you work in paediatrics its fun to be silly and make the kids laugh.
“It has been getting a lot of attention and I am now being asked if I am the ‘singing doctor’ but if it works for the patients then I’m happy.”
Lead Nurse Iona McGauran said: “It’s been great to see the reaction this video has had. Ryan was just doing what came naturally to keep his patient calm but it was a lovely video to see and the feedback from patients and their families has been fantastic to hear. He may start getting requests!”
