Independent businesses in Edinburgh and Glasgow will be throwing open their doors next Wednesday (12 June) for ‘Wake Up To Organic’, a campaign designed to celebrate organic food and showcase how easy it is to make the switch.
They’ll be offering free, organic mini-breakfasts as part of Organic UK’s nationwide event, which will see nearly 300 mini-events taking place across the length and breadth of Britain.
Selected stores will also offer a range of activities, such as cooking demonstrations to the opportunity to meet local farmers and producers.
Glasgow stores include stockists Locavore, Jan de Vries Healthcare, and Quality Vitamins & Herbs, as well as Fresh ‘n’ Fruity; Roots, Fruits and Flowers; The Project Cafe, and Tapa Organic Bakehouse & Cafe.
The benefits of choosing organic include the following:
- Better for nature and the planet. Organic farming works with the environment as it uses fewer pesticides. This way of farming protects and encourages wildlife while looking after the health of the soil.
- Better for animal welfare. Organic means always free-range and organic standards insist that animals are given plenty of space and fresh air to thrive and grow more naturally.
- Know what’s in your food. When it comes to organic, you know exactly what’s in your food. GM crops and ingredients are banned so you only get real ingredients with no artificial colours or preservatives.
